This week, the brand new electric ferry MF Nesvik enters service on the Hjelmeland-Nesvik-Skipavik route. After thorough testing by our employees and Westcon, it is now ready to welcome travelers on Thursday.
“MF Nesvik has an exciting design and an easily accessible passenger lounge. There are also good solutions on the bridge with quality equipment,” says Anette Røberg, operations manager for the service, who was involved in the sea trials a while ago.
MF Nesvik is somewhat larger and more spacious than MF Hjelmeland, which also operates on the route, and considerably larger than MF Sigrid, which is now being replaced by MF Nesvik. The ferry was designed by LMG Marin AS and built by Westcon Yard in Ølen. The vessel has capacity for almost 300 passengers and 80 cars. MF Nesvik has a large passenger lounge located below the car deck and just above the waterline, giving passengers the feeling of gliding across the fjord in total silence.
MF Nesvik is the sister ferry to MF Hydra, which is also being built at Westcon. Both vessels are designed to use as little energy as possible. MF Hydra will be the world’s first hydrogen-powered ferry, but MF Nesvik may also be upgraded to hydrogen in the future.
“We are very pleased to have another modern zero-emission vessel in Norled’s portfolio. We thank Westcon Yard, LMG Marin, Westcon Power & Automation and all our other partners for their excellent cooperation. It is impressive that both shipyards and suppliers manage to deliver MF Nesvik according to the original schedule despite all the challenges related to the corona situation,” says Sigvald Breivik, Technical Director at Norled.
