The Norwegian Public Roads Administration introduced AutoPASS Ferjekort from January 1, 2019, including a transition period, as announced on norled.no and on board since January 2019, as well as at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration at autopassferje.no.

As of Monday, July 1, 2019, no cards from the old “Nasjonalt Ferjekort” system are valid on board car ferries in Norway.

After the transition period of 6 months, many will have used up the value in their old Norled Verdi card already, and ordered an AutoPASS Ferjekort from autopassferje.no . (See further down for a refund, if you still have value left in the expired Norled card).

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration’s “Riksregulativet for Ferjetakster” (chapter 13) describes the valid means of payment from July 1. 2019, on ferries where there is no chip payment:

Cash (Norled accepts NOK)
Bank cards (Norled also accepts some types of credit cards)
AutoPASS ferry card
Local products: Ungdomskort and Periodekort (Norled’s “monthly card with photo”).
Refund, expired card:
If you want a refund of the residual value in your Norled card (and deposit), it works the same way as before, by filling in the form at https://dialog.norled.no/avslutte-verdikort and sending in your card, following the instructions there.

About Autopass at Norled otherwise:

Norled cannot sell or refill the new AutoPASS cards. See information at http://www.autopassferje.no/ on how to order your card and how the scheme works.
With an AutoPASS ferry card, you buy a ticket on board in exactly the same way as with older ferry cards: You buy a ticket (incl. driver) corresponding to the length of the vehicle, as well as a ticket for all passengers.
Norled’s prices, whether you pay with an AutoPASS ferry card or the old cards, are based on the same price rules, see the Norwegian Public Roads Administration’s National Regulations for Ferry Fares 2019, with associated price table
Norled does not administer the new AutoPASS scheme, and cannot respond on behalf of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration:
WE RECOMMEND THAT ALL QUESTIONS ABOUT AUTOPASS ARE ASKED TO THE Norwegian Public Roads Administration’s ORDER SERVICE: autopassferje.no or their tel 55 30 00 00 .
