New catamaran on the Hvaler link
In 2024, a brand new ferry will enter service on the Hvaler link. Norled won the tender for ferry operations in Hvaler municipality earlier this year and it has now been decided that Måløy shipyard will deliver the new vessel that will enter service.
– We look forward to welcoming travelers on board. Norled wants to electrify the connection in addition to using a vessel design that provides the most environmentally friendly and energy efficient operation of the vessel, says CEO, Heidi Wolden.
The vessel is environmentally friendly and specially adapted to the connection with capacity for passengers, cars, bicycles and kayaks. It is also universally designed with a ramp solution on deck that ensures that those with disabilities can easily access the sun deck.
– “The ferry has been designed to provide good travel experiences with a bright and pleasant interior with large windows and universal design,” says Hilde-Kristin Sæter, project manager for the new ferry.
Norled’s contract with Østfold Public Transport has a duration of 13 years with an option for a further 7 years of operation. The connection is new to Norled and assistant express boat manager Jarle Myrbø will be responsible for operations once the vessel is in place.
Måløy Verft is looking forward to building the new vessel for Hvalersambandet in close cooperation with Norled.
– The vessel is designed for the future. During the actual concept development, we have had a strong focus on developing a vessel with the aim of simplicity without compromising on excitement.
The cooperation with Norled through the tender process has been impeccable,” says Christian Carlson, CEO of Sea Technology AS, which owns Måløy Verft.
