Emission-free express boats in the Oslofjord from 2024 with Norled’s battery-swapping robot
The county council in Viken has decided that the express boats in the Oslofjord will be emission-free from 2024. The environmental project will be realized by using Norled’s new battery exchange robot. Enova is supporting the project with a total of NOK 100 million.
The express boats currently sailing in the Oslofjord will be upgraded with batteries to sail electrically and thus become emission-free. They will use Norled’s autonomous battery-swapping robot, which quickly changes battery packs at the quayside, eliminating the need for long periods of charging. It also reduces the load on the power grid.
– “We’re looking forward to sailing electrically with our express boats on the Oslofjord in 2024. Viken municipality shows that they are taking action to reduce emissions and offer good travel experiences,” says Innovation Manager at Norled Karolina Adolfsson.
This will be the first connection where Norled uses the new battery exchange solution mentioned in the Government’s roadmap for a green industrial boost.
