The names of the new ferries that will be part of the Stokkvågen-Lovund-Træna link have now been decided.

Norled CEO Rannveig Drengstig and the county councillor for transport in Nordland are looking forward to the arrival of brand new boats on the Stokkvågen-Lovund-Træna route. Now they can also announce the names of the four new ferries that will operate between Stokkvågen, Lovund and Træna.
– The new vessels will be named MF Søholmen, MS Risvær and MS Kvitvær. In addition, MF Sjona will enter the area as a reserve vessel,” says Drengstig.
Stable and predictable
The ferries, which are now under construction, will provide increased capacity and a more environmentally friendly travel experience for both residents and travelers in the region. County councillor Marianne Dobak Kvensjø is looking forward to starting a new period with brand new ferries.
– The names are taken from local places in the area, in line with Norled’s tradition of giving its vessels names with local roots. “We know that the ferries in the connections are often only referred to by the name of the boat that runs,” Kvensjø adds.
Hybrid operation
The ferries being built have hybrid operation, which will ensure regularity should there be a loss of power or charging.

The three main ferries are all hybrid-electric and will mainly be powered by electricity. There will be shore power charging at the quays in Stokkvågen, Lovund and Træna. But the ferries are also equipped with diesel generators as back-up, which ensures high regularity even in the event of a power outage,” explains CEO Drengstig.
60 cars
The vessels all have capacity for 60 cars, and offer 60 cm clearance on each side of the cars, double the current requirement.
– It will provide a safer and more comfortable boarding and departure experience,” says County Councillor Kvensjø, who is looking forward to testing the new ferries on the route.
Starts February 1, 2027
The vessels will be delivered continuously from late summer 2026 until year-end 2026/2027. The contract enters into force on February 1, 2027, when Norled takes over the operation of the connection, and lasts for ten years, until 2037.
– We are proud to be able to offer residents, businesses and all travelers a completely new and good offer – and with local names that people will recognize,” concludes Rannveig Drengstig.
