Norled to operate the Hvaler ferry from 2024
Østfold Public Transport has awarded Norled the operating agreement for the Hvaler link from January 1, 2024. They are very pleased with the result, both in terms of price and quality.
– Our goal is to offer good public transport services with the smallest possible environmental footprint. We have assumed zero-emission solutions in the connection and that considerations for universal design, public information and safety are taken care of in a good way. We believe the new agreement will be perceived positively by both customers and employees, and we perceive Norled as a professional company that we are confident can deliver good services in the years to come,” says Børre Johnsen, director of Østfold Public Transport.
Norled is committed to offering sustainable travel and is the ferry operator in Norway with the longest experience of electric operation of vessels. This experience stretches all the way back to 2015 when Norled introduced the world’s first electric ferry, MF Ampere, which is still in operation on the Lavik-Oppedal route.
– We look forward to welcoming travelers on board. Norled wants to electrify the connection in addition to using a vessel design that provides the most environmentally friendly and energy-efficient operation of the vessel. The ferry is designed to provide good travel experiences with bright and cozy interiors with large windows and universal design, says CEO of Norled, Heidi Wolden.
Norled was one of the first to design vessels that took universal design into account so that the vessels can be used by everyone on an equal footing.
Focus on quality and accessibility
Østfold Public Transport has had a particular focus on quality related to the implementation of the assignment and the design of the vessel in its assessment, where the consideration of flexible solutions and accessibility has been important. The ferry will meet several needs, including the transportation of passengers, vehicles, goods and municipal needs related to renovation and emergency preparedness.
There is a requirement for business transfer in the contract, so the crew will be offered to continue working for Norled in Hvalersambandet.
