We are now sailing electrically on Ullsfjorden!

The first electric ferry sails in Troms. MF "Folkestad" has been converted to electric operation and a charging tower is in place at Breivikeidet. After a period of testing, the ferry was ready to sail electrically on March 20.

MF “Folkestad” has been converted to electric operation and the charging tower is in place at Breivikeidet. After a period of charging testing, it was ready to sail electrically today.

– “This is an important milestone for Troms and Finnmark. Climate change is the greatest challenge of our time, which is why we must invest aggressively in alternative energy sources. I am very proud that we finally have electric propulsion for ferries in place in the region,” says county councillor for transport, Agnete Masternes Hanssen (Ap).

Will reduce greenhouse gases.

– “It’s very gratifying that we’re moving towards electric operation in Lyngen. Thanks to far-sighted politicians who set environmental requirements in the tenders. We at Norled have a goal of reducing our CO₂ emissions by 67 percent by 2030 by increasing the proportion of low- and zero-emission vessels in the fleet from 4 percent in 2019 to 65 percent by 2030, says CEO of Norled, Heidi Wolden.
