Children are welcome to travel alone on our express boat routes. Some counties have their own rules, please familiarize yourself with the applicable terms before sending your child on a trip.
Definition of “children traveling alone”
- Children between the ages of 6-12 who are traveling alone and unaccompanied by persons over the age of 16.
- Children under the age of 6 must be accompanied by someone over the age of 16.
NB: Please note that the age limit for children traveling alone on routes over one hour is 12 years.
Rules for “children traveling alone”:
- Children traveling alone pay an ordinary child ticket. The maximum number of children between the ages of 6-12 who can travel alone per departure is set at 8, which does not apply to student groups traveling to/from school. In this context, children are categorized from school age to 12 years.
- The child must be able to take responsibility for themselves, but the crew must be helpful along the way and ensure that the child gets off at the right destination.
- The child must be placed in the main salon, where the crew has the opportunity to observe either by camera or visually. Norled is not responsible for the child’s further journey with the corresponding means of transportation.
- Norled’s liability is limited to the agreed express boat journey.
- An information sheet with the child’s name, age and destination, the name of the guardian and contact information must be handed to the crew when boarding. This document must always be completed in triplicate (1 copy must accompany the child, 1 copy for the ship and 1 copy for the person sending the child).
- The child’s parent or guardian is at all times responsible for ensuring that the document is correctly completed. They also need to assess the child’s maturity, while preparing the child for the journey ahead.
- In special cases, such as deviations from Norled’s regulations for children traveling alone, a written agreement can be made for children traveling alone. The agreement must be made with the administration of the express boat and brought along for each journey the child performs.
- The ship’s captain has the right at all times to refuse requests for children to travel alone if he/she does not find this justifiable (e.g. in the event of poor weather conditions and major excursion weekends). This applies even if a ticket has been purchased in advance.
Payment of tickets for children traveling alone
- We recommend that everyone has purchased a ticket in advance, either online, via the payment app that applies in the relevant area, or that children bring cards/cash and pay for the ticket themselves on board. This is to avoid unnecessary time and delays (especially in ATB’s route area).
