Apprentice in Norled

We offer a number of apprenticeships on ferries and express boats on different routes and speed ranges, from Oslo in the east to Tromsø in the north.
Apprentices and cadets are very important to Norled. They are our future! We have professional managers who ensure thorough and good follow-up during the period as an apprentice or cadet with us. And it is important for Norled that apprentices and cadets get a varied everyday life and apprenticeship where knowledge is built up and not least that you get the opportunity to test yourself in a safe environment.
Norled has a good collaboration with the training offices in the country that take care of the admission and distribution of apprentices. Apprentices and cadets are trained on electric ferries, hydrogen ferries, conventional ferries and modern express boats.

Apprentice
You can apply for an apprenticeship after 2-3 years of upper secondary school in technology, industry, electrical or maritime subjects. With us, you can serve a two-year apprenticeship on deck or in machinery. After that, the apprenticeship certificate awaits. After obtaining a trade certificate, you can continue your education as a cadet.

Cadet is the last step in the maritime education before you apply for a certificate and become a bridge or engine officer. At Norled, we have qualified training managers who ensure thorough training in accordance with current requirements.

How did you feel welcomed when you started as an apprentice?
“I was very well received. I got to meet everyone and was shown around the boat. How everything worked and was assigned work tasks. It was very cozy. I’ve made good contact with the people I work with. I’ve been part of the community on board.”
What is the most important lesson you have learned during your apprenticeship?
“I’ve learned quite a lot. Such as being reliable, showing up on time. Doing all my work tasks with satisfactory results. And I’ve learned a lot in relation to the curriculum. I feel ready for the vocational exam.”
Do you have any tips for those starting their apprenticeship now?
“The most important tips I have for the apprentices starting now are show up on time, be committed and take initiative, do all your tasks, ask all your questions because they are here to help you and teach you.”
Would you recommend being an apprentice at Norled to others?
“I highly recommend being an apprentice with Norled. There are great people, good rotations, you learn a lot, even when you don’t have everything on board, you go through the theoretical stuff together with the training manager.”
