New Hvaler ferry honors female pioneer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The new vessel is named MS “Torine” after Nilsine “Torine” Madsen – the first woman to be elected to the county council of Hvaler in 1913. This was the first election where women in Norway had the right to vote. <\/p>\n\n

The ferries on Hvaler have traditionally had place names or women’s names, but this is the first time a Norled vessel has been given a personal name.<\/p>\n\n

Torine was a local pioneer. This fits well with the vessel, which also represents something new – environmentally friendly battery operation and lower emissions. <\/p>\n\n

We aim to increase the proportion of women in the company from 17 to 30 percent by 2030, and have already reached our target of 50 percent women in management positions and on the board.<\/p>\n\n

Torine Madsen was someone who chose positions and tasks that were previously reserved for men. Like Torine, we want more women to dare to make unconventional choices if they wish. Maritime professions are suitable for both genders. <\/p>\n\n
