MF “Ampere” started the electric ferry revolution as the first electric ferry in the world. Today, most ferries built in Norway are electric. At the same time, Norway is still at the forefront of green solutions for ferry operations, and electric ferries are not as common abroad as in Norway,” says Ferry Manager Katrine Meldahl. <\/p>\n\n

The MF “Ampere” ferry was built in 2014 by Fjellstrand shipyard in Omastrand, Vestland, as the world’s first electric ferry. The ferry is operated and owned by Norled and serves the E 39 highway across the Sognefjord. It is 80.8 meters long and 20.8 meters wide. The ferry carries 120 cars and 350 passengers. Since 2015, it has sailed more than 88,000 times between Lavik and Oppedal, which corresponds to almost 13 times around the equator. <\/p>\n\n

Lavik-Oppedal Ferjesambandet<\/strong>Lavik-Oppedal crosses the Sognefjord on Europavei 39. The trip takes 20 minutes and the distance is 5.7 km. This was originally a summer route established in 1955, between Lavik and Instefjord. In 1964, the connection became a year-round route and Oppedal was added as a stop. The following year, the terminus was moved to Brekke on the south side of the Sognefjord. This route was operated for 25 years.
