The world’s first ship powered by liquid hydrogen impresses

After its first few months in operation, the pioneering vessel MF "Hydra" has proved that liquid hydrogen on ships is both possible and efficient. Experience shows that this is a technology and a fuel that can ensure that short sea shipping in Norway can be emission-free where batteries are not an option. Liquid hydrogen can play an important role in the green maritime transition. The pilot project at Hjelmeland is therefore very important for global shipping.

Artificial intelligence and camera provide accurate overview of passengers

Keeping track of the number of passengers driving or boarding a ferry can be challenging when departures and arrivals need to be fast and efficient. There are also often limitations on what equipment can be set up on the quayside. The shipping company Norled and the technology company Counting Hero have therefore worked closely on a pilot project for automatic passenger counting on board the ferry MF "Nesvik".

MF “Hydra” the world’s first:

Sailing emission-free on liquid hydrogen. Today's commissioning of the MF Hydra with emission-free hydrogen is groundbreaking in several ways. In addition to the major technological developments, a great deal of work has been done to develop regulations to enable hydrogen as a fuel on Norwegian passenger ships.
